Pinterest Review

I recently discovered a brilliant website call Pinterest. It’s kind of like Evernote (which is an incredible website) but just for images. So where I might capture business articles and clip them into my Evernote notebooks, I use Pinterest solely for stashing inspirational images.

The benefit of the site is that you can use it as a ‘mood board’ when re-designing a room in your home, or you can even use it to showcase your own products. For example, if you are a chef you can start a board of your creations, likewise if you are a designer you can also showcase your work.  You can even add a ‘Pin This’ button to your site to make it easy for others to share your stuff.

great storage ideasGetting started is easy. You go to the Pinterest website and sign up then make sure you add the extension to your browser. I use Chrome which is the best browser out there in my opinion (don’t use Internet Explorer – it’s slow and full of security holes) and adding the extension was done at a click of a button.

Then when you’re on a site and you see an image you like, you click the icon on your browser to ‘pin’ it. Once you press the icon it will want to know which image on the page you want to pin, so you hover over the images, select the one you want then click ‘Pin This’. A little box will pop up where you write a description and select which board you want to add it to. You can move or copy the image to another board later if you want to.

I have a few pinboards including Style Inspiration, Ideas For The New Flat (we’re moving soon) Crochet, and Puppy I Want (I can dream!). Once you’re on the Pinterest website itself, you can browse through other members pins and Comment, Like, Mention, or Repin the image to your own board. This part is addictive and I’ve spent entire evenings doing this!

I think the site is a great way or recording images that you want to refer back to later and is brilliant if you’re decorating your home, looking for new inspiration, or want to showcase your work – although using the site solely to promote yourself is frowned upon. When you click on a pin it directs you to the original website so I’m sure people will soon jump on it to  use as one of their marketing tools.
